South Shore Youth Rowing, Winter 2005
January 10-March 9

When:
Monday and Wednesday: 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Where:
Hull Lifesaving Museum’s Windmill Point Boathouse--and the waters and islands of magnificent Boston Harbor

Who:
All rowers and all levels are welcome. This is co-ed activity. No previous experience is needed, only enthusiasm and a willingness to try. Rowers come from Braintree, Cohasset, Duxbury. Hingham, Hull, Norwell, Scituate, and Weymouth…

What:
Winter weather typically is either gorgeous for rowing or too foul to venture on the water. Please use common sense and call the museum (781-925-5433) before 2 pm to ascertain whether we are having a “rowing” or “fitness” day.

If the weather does not permit rowing on any given day, we will pursue another activity together: getting fit (yes, this CAN be fun), performing small boat and equipment repairs (this is fun, too), or learning something about our maritime history and culture (the most fun of all).

Because of the many options for the winter season, dressing properly for the day might be your hardest job of all. Please see the attached winter clothing list for on the water dress information. We are absolutely inflexible about being properly attired for winter rowing, so read carefully, and call with any questions. Being too cold at this time of year is a real danger. You also will want to bring running shoes to rowing every day – for use while erging, stretching, or strength training.

Experience the joy, confidence, and challenge of discovering yourself as a mariner and genuine athlete. You will learn how to row, navigate the Harbor, understand the influences of weather and tide, stretch your limits, love “getting ugly” with your friends.

How Much:
$120 Hull Lifesaving Museum members; $160 Non-members
Payment is due on or before the first day of practice.
A limited number of partial and whole scholarships are available. Please inquire by calling the museum at 781-925-5433 or emailing: [email protected].

Cancellation Policy for Practice and Events

  • Practices and events seldom are canceled due to weather. However, heavy rains, high winds, and high seas can lead to practice/event cancellation.
  • Practices begin promptly at the scheduled times. Late arrivals hinder practice by necessitating reconfiguration of crews and boats, which takes valuable time away from on-the-water practice. Please make every effort to be on time to practice, and to let us know if you are running late so we can plan accordingly.
  • Please let us know in advance when you will be absent from practice.
  • The museum staff will have weather updates by 2 p.m. daily regarding conditions and practice. Museum Phone Number: (781) 925-5433
