Renowned boatwright, Reuben Smith, will lead a dynamic
10-week course building an elegant plywood sailing Shellback Dinghy
at the Windmill Point Boathouse. The class will meet Mondays and
Wednesdays, 7:00 - 9:30 pm, June 21 though August 26. This
project is well suited for amateurs and backyard tinkerers, as well
as skilled boatbuilders. Building the shellback includes many of
the processes boatbuilders use to construct much bigger and more
elaborate boats, such as lofting, spiling, scarphing, and building
spars, but in a small and do-able way. We’ll start from scratch
and by the end, be sailing a handsome, well-crafted boat. The completed
Shellback Dinghy will be raffled throughout the year to support
the museum - with the winning name pulled at the 2005 Snow
Row. Only 250 tickets will be sold at $50 each, hard odds to beat!
To enroll, or for more information, please contact Corinne Leung
at the museum, 781-925-5433 or Reuben Smith at 617-462-7215.
