2004 Sea & Sky Artists’ Retreat Weekend Schedule of Events

Plein Air Oil Painting Demonstration, Marjorie Whorf
Friday, September 17, 2 pm-4 pm
$20 members, $25 non-members

Oil painting demonstration, en plein air weather permitting. Participants are invited to paint along with Marjorie in any medium they choose, or to simply watch the demonstration. Marjorie graduated from the Vesper George School of Art, and continued her studies at the Art Students League in New York. She began working in the American Impressionist style, light and form of nature by color, and color alone, while studying with Henry Hensche at the Cape School of Fine Arts in Provincetown.

Plein Air Watercolor Workshop, Melanie Kozol
Saturday, September 18, 10 am-12:30 pm
$20 members, $25 non-members

The focus of this workshop will be to instruct students on the art of creating quick watercolor sketches, journal style. Learn how to simplify the complexities of landscape while capturing a sense of light and place. Melanie Kozol will lead students through th e watercolor painting process with demonstrations and discussions. Students should come equipped to paint. A suggested supply lis t will be available. Workshop is open for students with watercolor experience. Melanie re ceived her BFA from Connecticut College, her MFA from The School of Visual Arts, NY and attended th e Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She is a recipient of an NEA Individual Artists Fellowship. She teaches painti ng at the 92nd St Y in NY. Her work is represented by Weber Fine Art and Kathryn Markel Fine Art< /a> in New York.

 

Portrait Painting Demonstration, John Kilroy

Win a chance to sit for this portrait demonstration!

John will give an alla prima portrait demonstration while lecturing on his artistic procedures. John graduated from The Art Institute of Boston where he studied with Norman Baer and Walter Marks. He has studied privately with Robert Bliss, John Asaro and Richard Schmid. His teaching methods focus on painting directly from life, incorporating accuracy of observation, combined with alla prima painting techniques. He stresses the effect of light on the subject and on identifying the elements of light and color that form the visual language of the "old masters." Floor Cloth Painting Demonstration, Susan Denniston
and Sunday Brunch

Sunday, September 19, 11 am -1 pm
$20 members, $25 non-members

Join us for a delicious, casual Sunday Brunch with an added treat. Artist Susan Denniston will demonstrate floor cloth painting, a craft common in colonial America. Susan combines painting and printmaking techniques to create richly layered works of art that are both beautiful and functional. For Susan, painting floor cloths has become a wonderful exploration of color and texture. Learn about tools, techniques, and materials.
